Summer torrential rains hit Lowveld region of South Africa

South Africa’s Lowveld region has been hit by heavy torrential rain after the movement of a tropical depression into the region from Mozambique on Monday. Yesterday, the Kruger National Park temporarily closed its gates for visitors following flood damage and safety concerns. A number of tourists had to be airlifted from the park’s affected areas to safety. According to the South African Weather Service, Cyclone Dando is now downgraded to a low pressure system. Authorities warned residents in affected areas to stay clear from river banks and streams.
